Love/Hate

Things I love:

1. My dad. He called me and asked what I plan on doing for health/medical insurance when I move, and I said I hadn’t thought about it yet, as it’ll depend on when I get a job. So he just said “Well, since you don’t know when you’ll have one yet I’ll just get it for you first.” πŸ™‚ THANKS DAD! (Not that he even knows how to get to my blog, but you know. Just in case. πŸ˜‰ )

2. There’s a huge party for Coach tonight, as they’re celebrating the opening of their flagship store here in Hong Kong. John Mayer and DJ AM will both be there, and my sister’s been whining about it all week, but I couldn’t do anything about it since random people in my office got invites but I didn’t! That is, until today…I managed to get my name on the list (a really sweet PR girl I know offered!) when I was at the ribbon cutting earlier today, and my sister has my business cards and a friend who’s going so they get to go. Yup, I sacrificed seeing John Mayer for FREE and LIVE for the lil sis. She’s a way bigger fan than I am anyway. πŸ™‚ (Plus, I called dibs on the gift bag, if there is one. Which there should be. haha)

3. Fridays when I don’t have to work Saturdays. No explanation needed.

4. Dreaming about working at big publishing house like Random House. Y’kno they have incredible, insanely good benefits??? Seriously. Ah, one day…I can practically see my business card already. πŸ˜‰

Things I hate:

1. The weather right now. It’s been raining steadily for the last 2 days, yesterday on the way to work I was soaked up to my thighs! Today was pretty bad too, on and off constantly. Plus, despite the sun not showing its head, it’s incredibly, stinking, HOT. Ick.Β

2. The end of the month, b/c that’s when the funds run low. Thank God Sunday is the 1st! Woo hoo. Already worked out my budget for June – there’ll be tons of $$ being poured into the NY fund (about 55% of my monthly salary!), which means less money for me to spend now, which sucks too. (Louboutins are calling my name…can you hear that???)

Carrie’s Apartment

I love her apartment. Ok fine so it’s actually a set, but I still love it. I can totally see me living in an apt similar to her’s (at least while I’m still single) and decorated like that (although slightly less cluttered!). I also love her closet, it’s genius that the hallway to the bathroom is her closet, since that totally maximizes closet space:

According to the HBO website, “the walls are a soft shade of celery green washed with a lavender iridescent glaze (“it looks better on screen – it has a glow about it,” Jeremy Conway, SATC’s Production Designer explains)”, and everything has a slightly weathered, “flea market feel – weathered paint, mismatched chairs and tables, lived-in fabrics – and for a good reason: many of the pieces were snatched up by Conway and his team at New York City flea markets and second-hand stores”.

All the details that went into each character’s apartment is actually pretty interesting, so here are links for:

Charlotte’s apartment
Miranda’s apartment
Samantha’s apartment

Which one’s your fave?

I also really like Monica’s apartment in Friends, which also has all the mis-matched furniture but in a way that seems to work. (And I totally love the purple door w/the yellow frame around the peephole. I want a purple door!) Ah, I so can’t wait to do up my own apartment!

Picture Post

Random pics from last week (if you’re viewing this in a reader you’ll have to go to the actual link to this post to see the slideshow!):

I loved having my cousin in town! Wish she was around more often, though I’m sure I’ll be visiting her in LA and her visiting me in NYC once I’ve moved in 99 days πŸ˜‰

I love my friends so much – not sure what I’m going to do without them when I’m gone, but that’s what the summer’s for! (And plus, I still have awesome friends in NYC too, but it’s just…different, since I’m obviously closer and spend far more time with people here.) I feel bad about blowing guys off (especially really nice, really cute guys) recently simply because I’d much rather spend time with my friends and family than deal with another love interest – no thanks. I have time for that later!Β

Ok, off to an editorial meeting and then later interviewing the president of the Italian Trade Commission at the Vinexpo 2008. Wine tasting, here I come…;)

100 Days

According to the facebook countdown I made, there are 100 days until I move to NYC. Weird, right? I’ve wanted to move since Fashion Week last year, and now there’s a mere 100 days…that seems like nothing. 3 more magazine issues. The hottest summer months to go…ahh. I already miss my family & friends!

Still, it’s very exciting. I hope the weather is as gorgeous this year in September as it was last year. πŸ™‚

NYC, here I come…!

Around the Web

Arielle wrote a great post about her New York – it makes me even more excited to move and be able to come up with a list of my very own New York!

Galadarling posts about gorgeous moleskine inspiration – check it out here. I think I need to buy a new one (I’ve used up a lined regular sized one, and I have the New York city notebook, which I used when I was there last, and am looking forward to continuing filling it out!), probably blank, although I can’t decide whether to get the pocket or regular sized one! Or which kind of paper. Decisions, decisions…can’t wait to start drawing all over it though. πŸ™‚Β

If you love the Moleskine but don’t think the paper quality is good enough, here is a way to rebind it with paper you choose. I’ve been thinking about binding my own journals/notebooks lately, but Hong Kong isn’t very good at supplying arts and crafts type things, like loose, high quality paper and other things. Still, it’s a great link if you’re into that sort of thing.

I hope I don’t end up like these New Yorkers, learning to make lunch last into dinner and living in tiny places, giving up shopping (the horror!), etc, just to live the New York dream. Great motivation to keep saving a chunk of my monthly salary…! (It’s hard to lose sight of sometimes when I spy a pair of Louboutins I want, or a Miu Miu bag, or that dress from Shopbop… πŸ˜‰ )

DH, GG, and OTH season finales

SPOILERS AHEAD! Do not read if you haven’t seen the episodes yet!

Desperate Housewives: First, I am glad that Kayla finally left the Scavo home – even though it’s really sad that it came to that for her and for Tom, it was still what needed to be done – the consequences of her lies would just spiral out of control: splitting Lynette up with her family, physically hurting the boys and also maybe Penny – it was just too much! Second, Maynard? Really? Ah, that’s so sad – little boys should not be given old man names! Loved Lynette’s line: “Did he die of being beat up because he was called Maynard?” haha I think they could have just given him Maynard as a middle name! Oh well…Third, it’s a relief to finally know Katherine’s secret & lies! And I love how all the ladies pulled together for her at the end, kinda like how they pulled together for Bree when Edie was blackmailing her. ❀ strong girl friendships! Fourth, Ellie getting shot was convenient, wasn’t it. Almost a little too convenient, which was kinda annoying. I loved when Gabby jumped on the handyman though, lol.

And finally…what is with the fast forwarding 5 years ahead thing? At first I was so confused – what are they doing? It’s totally OTH all over again, in terms of just skipping through time. I suppose that will make it more interesting though…I’m kinda really sad about Gabby’s future, running around with misbehaving daughters and trying to protect her pretty things, when she obviously doesn’t even have the time to make herself look good anymore. Who is Susan’s mystery dude? And I’m excited about Dylan getting married. I wonder what Julie’s up to…?

Gossip Girl: What a lame finale! There wasn’t anything really that was a cliffhanger, it just tidied everything up for everyone’s summers and left it. What is there left to wonder? I mean, it was an ok episode, but it just wasn’t dramatic enough for a finale, in my opinion.

I’m glad Georgina got what she deserved, kinda understand about Dan wanting to not stay with Serena (duh, Dan’s the nicest guy in the world and she couldn’t even trust him enough to tell him what was going on, but would tell Nate & Chuck?) Blair & Chuck…well, it was cute how they got together and I loved the expression on Chuck’s face as his dad was going on about how he’d come back from summer a changed man (lol). Maybe Blair will hook up with that other guy, there was definitely some chemistry between them!

I suppose I will miss Gossip Girl until next season, but I won’t exactly be hanging off the edge of my seat in anticipation of season 2!

One Tree Hill: It’s so sad about Dan! I’m so relieved he didn’t kill that reverend man, but it’s so sad that even after that, and helping the old man, and actually being happy for 5 minutes he gets seriously run over. I’ve taken to liking Dan for the first time ever – he knows he really messed up, and he’s really trying to make amends but no one is letting him. I hope he comes back next season and has a chance to make things right. I’m also happy for Nathan, who’s been working really hard and finally it’s starting to pay off. I totally heart lil Jamie still – he is SO cute with his swimming wings. haha As for the Lucas + Brooke/Peyton/Lindsay thing, I totally think he called Lindsay. I mean, she’s the one he was all torn up about most recently, I’m sure she’s the one on the forefront of his mind. Oh well…guess we’ll see what happens in a few months!

MmMm FOOD…! (and fam)

I’ve been having such good food the last few days – Saturday was Grissini (scroll down for Grissini info)Β at the Grand Hyatt, where I had a seriously melt-in-your mouth delightful beef carpaccio w/rocket (or arugula, depending what country you’re from) and slivers of parmesan, and for my entree had a pesto lasagne. I’m not normally a huge fan of lasagne, but I do love pesto, and this one came in a little clay dish, and each layer was thin and delicate, piping hot and just totally scrumptious, for lack of a better word! I shared the tiramisu for dessert but it was only ok, too creamy for me personally.

Sunday dinner was at Spoon at the Intercontinental (where that weird spork is from in the photo above), and I had the duck foie gras with this ginger sauce and a herb salad that came on the side. It was SO GOOD. I don’t even like ginger, but the sauce was delish with the foie gras, and it was quite a large piece and 2/3rds of the way through I had to pause because I felt like I was gonna have a heart attack. Entree was the shell pasta with ham and truffle in some sort of cream sauce, which was also really good (I love truffles, and I love cream sauce for pastas), but not exactly spectacular (then again, how spectacular can pasta really be?).Β

Last night dinner was at Cafe Deco on the Peak – not exactly fine dining, but it was still really yum. Had a Caesar salad to start (nothing special, but I really wanted salad suddenly last night) and then ordered the truffle + prosciutto pizza that also had rocket/arugula on top and some parmesan cheese. Seriously, if you ever go to Cafe Deco I highly recommend it. Β SO GOOD. Sadly I couldn’t finish it, even though I tried really hard to! 😦 lol (We were at the Peak to show my cousin’s friend the view, but unfortunately yesterday was raining cats and dogs the entire day and at night, and the Peak was foggier than ever. From the restaurant we could barely even see across the street to the Peak Tower!)

Also sadly, I didn’t take any pics. I probably should have, although I would have felt kinda self-conscious. LoL

(No, Andre, I’m not fat. Psh.)

On a totally different note, the lil sis, my parents, and my grandma are all arriving later today! As fun as it was having the apt to myself, I’m excited for everyone to get back. I’m sure home will be really very noisy (lil sis has a tendency to sing and dance around the house, or my dad will be chasing her around the furniture as she runs away squealing “SAVE ME! SAVE ME!” lol) but it’s gonna be so much fun. πŸ™‚ I love my fam! Β
