Last day at the internship…

…and other nerdy things.

So today was the last day of my internship. I can’t believe it’s over! Been there for so long that it feels like I’ve always had 2 work-type things going on in my life, work and internship. But now it’s just work. Which is just as well. I pretty much have learned all that I could learn there, and while it was definitely worthwhile and, I think, a valuable use of my time, I am so looking forward to having at least 2 days off a week! And the exciting things I’ve planned for next week are…going through all the crap in my room and tidying up my clothes, putting things away, and reorganizing. Yay I’m a nerd.

Also, I totally didn’t expect anything but when one of the agents left, she gave me the audio version of David Sedaris’s When You Are Engulfed In Flames! I’m so excited. I’ve already uploaded the first CD to iTunes and synced my iPhone so that I can listen to it on the way to work tomorrow. 😀

And, yesterday the nerdiest thing in the world happened to me. I was sitting on the subway going uptown, and when it was my stop I stood up, only the guy standing directly in front me turned to get off as well, and his arm swung around and literally knocked the glasses right off my face. I looked down to the girl I was sitting next to, and obviously was totally blind and couldn’t see them, and then the girl on the other side handed them to me. I squeaked out a “Thanks!” and quickly exited the train, right on the heels of the dude that knocked my glasses off, muttering “a-hole” to myself the whole time. I couldn’t decide whether to be pissed off, mortified, or amused, so it kinda just settled into a blend between the latter. Just had to share!

One more random tidbit – I’ve read 30 new books since I moved to NYC. How awesome is that? And I have 10 things on hold at the library. Yay! haha Oh my I’m a nerd. Well, there’s a reason I’m trying to get into publishing! 🙂

A Step Back to Take a Look at My Life

I’m currently sitting in Madison square park, enjoying the warmth (finally!) and killing some time before a meeting with my roommate and the broker who found us our current apartment. I can smell the deliciousness of Shake Shack, but am not in the one hour wait (that’s a guesstimate!).

Earlier this week I was thinking about how much I love my life in New York. True, I am almost always working, but the last few weeks I’ve also made time to hang out with my friends, and that makes all the difference. (I had to make up for that by reading 3.5 manuscripts in the last two days, but I managed!) Basically, I’ve managed to both work hard and play hard, and it just proves evwrytuomg really is about finding the right balance, figuring out what works. Obviously I’d rather have a 9-5, 5 day a week job that pays a lot better than my current job, but I’ve managed to make my life work in terms of time management. Now if only I could find a way to make more money! (/find a ‘real’ job).

I had an interview on Tuesday for a part-time assistant job, and although it went well, the woman could tell I want a full time job. I’m keeping my hopes up in general though, since this month I’ve had 2 more interviews than I’ve had all year- that must be a good sign, no? Just gotta keep at it…

One more thing…

While working at the bookstore on Saturday, guess who came in shopping? WOLVERINE! aka, Hugh Jackman! SO HOT. Actually when he first walked in I thought it was a friend of mine b/c he was wearing a hat my friend as well, and they’re both tall, but then I realized this guy is older, and he had his son with him and some customers were taking photos with him.

Then my coworker told me who it was and left the info desk to check, and confirmed it, and that’s when Hugh (we’re on a first name basis now…ok not really) came over and asked me where the travel and the design books were! I squealed like a little girl when he left, and then later he came back to ask if we did gift wrapping. LoL I heard he also gave a cashier his autograph when she asked! So he was just a really nice guy, I guess! 🙂

Swoon. 🙂

First, thank you all for the supportive comments, although I haven’t been posting lately, I did read them and I appreciate them!!

I’m feeling better, but still on the job hunt. Went on my first ‘real’ interview earlier this week, hopefully will have positive news soon! I feel like more jobs are opening up anyway, at least in the industry I want to be in, so I’m optimistic. (Fingers crossed for me please!!)

Also…I met David Sedaris yesterday! We spoke on the phone (again – and this time I corrected him, haha) and then he came by the office and I met him! I was so wishing I’d brought one of his books with me so he could autograph it…haha. Plus I’d just read 2 of his unpublished essays, and was laughing so hard about them and one of them he mentions how nervous he gets when meeting writers he admires, and I wanted to use the line that he used (don’t wanna give anything away in case I get in trouble!), but didn’t dare. Eek!

Ugh, I got 5 papercuts today from filing! So painful. Ouch.

Ok, that’s mostly my update. I’m working all weekend which will be really fun (not). At least the weather isn’t gonna be THAT great, or I’d be P.O.’d! 🙂

One more week till the walk for ALS…last days for donations! *hint* 🙂
